- ELLERSLIE - Merle William DeVore, 90, of Ellerslie, died Wednesday, Feb. 24, 1999, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland. Born June 3, 1908, in Cumberland, he was a son of the late Benjamin and Rachael (Witt) DeVore. Mr. DeVore, a retired Western Maryland Railway worker, is survived by three sisters, Mary Smouse, Hyndman, Pa., Dorthy Bohn, Ellerslie, and Edna Morris, Cumberland; great-niece and nephew, Linda and Mark Winner, Haymarket, Va.; and several nieces and nephews. Mr. DeVore was also preceded in death by his wife, Pearl DeVore. Friends will be received at the Harvey H. Zeigler Funeral Home, Hyndman, on Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Saturday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Faye Leydig officiating. Interment will be in Porter Cemetery, Hyndman.
