"Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Thursday in J. J. Moran & Sons Funeral Home with visitation one hour before the services. Burial will be in Fairlawn Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. John's Hospice or Grace United Methodist Church." "Mr. Burke was born in Decatur on Nov. 14, 1915, the son of William O. and Katie O'Bryan Burke. He was an electronics specialist for the Signal Depot, and in 1961 he went to Columbus, Ohio, to work for the Defense Construction Supply Center and retired from there in June of 1973. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks Lodge 401, Castle William Post 105 American Legion and VFW in St. Petersburg, Fla. He was a World War II Navy veteran serving as a submarine tender in the Pacific. He married Mable Elizabeth "Betty" McKenzie in St. Louis on Oct. 25, 1937. She preceded him in death on Feb. 1, 1999." Surviving are several nieces and nephews, including Jim and wife Georganna Bailey of Decatur; several great-nieces and great-nephews."
