- patient two days. He had been in failing health five years. Born at Consol, a son of the late John B. and Ada (Shumaker) Thomas, he was a retired employee of the Amcelle Plant of Celanese Fibers Company receiving a disability retirement in 1962. Mr. Thomas was a member of Welsh Memorial Baptist Church and Celanese Local 1874, Textile Workers Union. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Fern (Wilson) Thomas; three sons, Samuel I. Thomas, Jr., Pontiac, Mich.; Carl E. Thomas, Kenosha, Wis., and George A. Thomas, Borden Mines; three brothers, Edward L. Thomas, Murfreesboro, Tenn.; Albert Thomas, Chicago, and James Thomas, Newport News, Va.; two sisters, Mrs. Leonard DeVore, Detroit, and Mrs. Herbert Ellis, Rescue, Va., and ten grandchildren. The body is at the John J. Hafer Frost Mansion where friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be conducted there Monday at 1 p. m. by Rev. Fred J. Gamble, pastor of Welsh Memorial Baptist Church, and interment will be in Frostburg Memorial Park. The Cumberland News, September 10, 1966
