- Mr. H. Willard Good, 82, of 112 Fairview Ave., Waynesboro, PA, died at 7:22 A.M. Monday, March 25, 2002 in Waynesboro Hospital. He had been in failing health for the past several years and critically ill for the past two weeks. Born September 13, 1919 in Waynesboro, he was the son of the late Harper Allen and Ramona Mae (Reichard) Good. He lived most of his life in the Waynesboro area. Mr. Good graduated from Waynesboro High School with the class of 1937. He attended Juniata College in Huntingdon, PA from 1938 thru 1939, specializing in mechanical engineering. He completed a drafting course from the International Correspondence Schools in Scranton, PA and a diesel-engineering course from the New York Diesel Institute of New York. He graduated top student of the class in Journeyman Machinist Trade School of Landis Tool Company, Waynesboro. He and his late wife, Mrs. Mary Pauline (McKenzie) Good, were married June 17, 1944 in Fayetteville Lutheran Church in Fayetteville, PA by Rev. Charles Frazer and Dr. George Detweiler. They moved to the present address in 1952. Mrs. Good died on March 25, 1997. Mr. Good was employed by Landis Tool Company, Waynesboro from 1940 through 1944, and after completing his machinist's trade, he worked in the tool room and grinding departments and advanced to research and development where he did all the developmental and testing work for the new centerless thread grinding program. He then worked for Landis Machine Company, Waynesboro from 1946 through 1959 in the Die Head Engineering Department where he did most of the development work for all types of die heads and then in the Engineering Division where he did new design work on all types of threading machines. From 1959 until retiring on February 28, 1985, he worked for Pangborn Division in Hagerstown, MD first in the Engineering Department where he designed mechanisms and structures for all types of blast cleaning machines and equipment, and then in Research and development Engineering, where he designed, developed, and supervised manufacture and testing of all new innovations developed in the laboratory for the Pangborn Corporation. He was the owner of several patents registered in the U.S. Patent Offices in Washington, D.C. Mr. Good was a member of Waynesboro Church of the Brethren, where he served as deacon for over 50 years, was a Sunday school teacher in various departments during his early years, and was a member and teacher of the Christian Homebuilder's Sunday School Class. He also served on the Finance, Christian Education, Ministry, and Properties Committees of the church. He also was a member of the South Chapter 2977 AARP, Waynesboro and National AARP. Mr. Good was an accomplished violinist in his younger years and was a member of the high school and Juniata College orchestras. Mr. Good attained the rank of Eagle Scout plus two Eagle Palms. He served as Scout Master of Troop #7 at the Waynesboro Church of the Brethren, was chairman of the troop committee, and served on the district scout committees. He is survived by one son, Darwin E. Good, Waynesboro; two sisters, Frances Pauline Kuhn, Palmyra, PA and Lillian R. Good, Waynesboro; and one brother, Charles E. Good, Zullinger; and a number of nieces and nephews. Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Friday, March 29, 2002 in Waynesboro Church of the Brethren, 117 S. Church Street, Waynesboro with Rev. Prudence B. Yelinek and Rev. James Lucas officiating. Burial will be in Lincoln Cemetery, Chambersburg. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service Friday in the church. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Waynesboro Church of the Brethren, 117 S. Church Street, Waynesboro, PA 17268. Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad Street, Waynesboro is in charge of the arrangements.
