Alva Louis Sowers, 78, of Flintstone, died yesterday in Sacred Heart Hospital. Born in Artemas, Pa., December 30, 1893, he was a son of the late William and Elda (Shaffer) Sowers. Mr. Sowers was a member of the Artemas Christian Church Preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Ruha E. (Collins) Sowers, he is survived by a son, Herman Sowers, Flintstone; two daughters, Mrs. Vada Barnes, Baltimore, and Mrs. Amanda Weimer, Flintstone; two brothers, John Sowers, New York and Condy Sowers, Waynesboro, Pa.; two sisters, Mrs. Mae Abbott, Bowling Green and Mrs. Zelda Coffman, Smithsburg; 14 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. The body is at the Scarpelli Funeral Home where friends will be received today from 7 to 9 p.m. and tomorrow from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. The Cumberland Sunday Times, November 28, 1971
