The Daily Courier, 15 May 1929. Clarence Edward Crowe was killed May 8 by a Baltimore & Ohio freight train at Broad Ford. WATCHMAN IS KILLED ON EVE OF PENSION Connellsville, PA, May 10 - Clarence E. Crowe, 69, a Government watchman at Overholt distillery at Broadford, two miles west, was killed near there Wednesday night when run down by a Baltimore and Ohio freight train on the Mt. Pleasant branch. The head and left arm were severed as 36 cars passed over the body. Within 27 days he would have been retired on a pension. For 30 years he had been employed at the distillery as a gauger. Mr. Crowe resided at Meyersdale. He was a widower. Surviving children include Dorothy at home, Charles of Johnstown, Mrs. Bernadette Jones of Somerset, Mrs. Marie McClaren of Williamsport, PA, Edward and Mrs. Stella Saunders, both of Meyersdale. One brother, Eugene of Meyersdale, also survives. He was a member of Connellsville Lodge No. 503, B.P.O. Elks. The Cumberland Times, May 10, 1929
