- LONACONING- Vivian (Filsinger) McKenzie of Lonaconing, formerly of Keyser, completed her life's journey on Thursday, April 2, 2015. She was the daughter of the late Herman A. and Gladys M. (Pape) Filsinger. Proceeding her in their life's journey were her husband of 50 years, Harold W. McKenzie and three brothers, James H. Filsinger and his wife Ruth (Rephann)Filsinger, Carl E. Filsinger and wife Martha Foye Filsinger, and Norman Donald Filsinger. Vivian graduated from Beall High School with the Class of 1943, her class being the third to graduate from the then new Beall High. After graduation, she became employed by the Celanese Corp. She worked in the main laboratory as a Lab Technician until 1970 when she resigned to assist her husband in the operating of their Funeral Home. They were the former owners of the Markwood McKenzie Funeral Home in Keyser. Vivian was a member of Isis Court #1 Ladies Oriental Shrine, Wheeling, WV, Re Temple #118 Daughter of the Nile, Cumberland, Alkire Chapter #10 Order of the Eastern Star, Keyser, Charter member of the former Noon Timers Homemakers Club, Keyser's Woman's Club, Keyser branch of the Ladies Shrine, Mineral County Humane Society, First United Methodist Church, Keyser for 38 years, transferring her membership to Lonaconing U. M. C., when she moved there in 2007. She was also a member of the United Methodist Women, Lonaconing. She was a volunteer for meals on wheels when it was in operation in Keyser. Vivian had many hobbies. Her favorite being oil painting. She took lessons from the late Anna Montgomery Mott. Both Vivian and her husband loved to travel. They traveled throughout the United States, Canada, and Mexico. In Canada, they included all the provinces plus Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia several times. In Mexico, they toured the Myan Ruins and the jungles of Quatama. When the children were younger, they vacationed many summers on Lake Opinicon in Canada. Vivian is survived by her two children, Jennie L. DeHaven and husband Glen M. DeHaven of Lebanon, TN, and her son James E. McKenzie and wife Krista Ann (Clark) McKenzie of Lonaconing; four grandsons, Shawn M. DeHaven and wife Jennifer of Hendersonville, TN; Corey E. McKenzie and wife Amanda of Halethorpe, MD; Dr. Ryan McKenzie and daughter Anna of Wilmington, DE; Dr. Bradley McKenzie and wife Dr. Lauren McKenzie of Stephen City, VA; four great-grandchildren, Jackson C. McKenzie, Josie E. McKenzie, Scarlett I. DeHaven, Greyson Y. DeHaven, and Anna C. McKenzie. Also surviving are a sister-in-law, Lois (Nelson) Filsinger of Clarysville, one niece, one nephew, two great nieces, one great nephew, one great-great niece, and several cousins. Vivian was blessed by having two loyal and loving care helpers during her time of need and wanted them to know how much they were appreciated. Patricia "Patty" Russell and Judy "Peggy" Hutcheson. Friends will be received at the Sowers Funeral Home, Frostburg on Saturday from 6-8 p.m. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Monday, April 6th at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Fred Iser and Rev. George M. Harpold officiating. Pallbearers will be grandsons. Interment will be private. She will be laid to rest next to her husband in the family plot at Eckhart Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Re Temple #118 c/o of Judith Hall, 8 Richardway, LaVale, MD 21502 to help them assist the Shriner's in their quest to maintain their Children's Hospital.
