Mastin B. Wiggins, Pvt., Co "D", Rgt Ala appears on a list of noncomissioned officers and privates exchanged at Aiken's Landing VA Aug 5, 1862. He was captured at Williamsburg and Delivered July 16, 1862, by a Detachment of New York Vol. (Roll 4; page 104, Aikens Landing, VA) Card #49023260. It appears that he then traveled to Tennessee. He was enlisted as a Privated in Co. "D", 33 Reg't Alabama Infantry on Sept 1, 1863 at Harrison, Tenn, by a Capt Hammett, for a preiod of three years. He was wounded at Chicamago, Georgia on May 27, 1864. He appears on a Register at Way Hospital, Meridian, Miss, admitted January 29, 1865. He appears on a report of furloughs granted by the Medical Examining Board, Disabled Camp, Lauderdale, Miss, January 31, 1865 (60 day furlough) Disease: "wounds of skull." Note: "Unfit for any duty." "To await authority to be retired." Residence was listed as Georgina Butler Co., Al. He was married to Lucinda Jane Ingram, Mach 19, 1865 at Georgeanna, Butler County, Alabama, by Squire O'Quine. This info was taken from her "Widow's Application for Pension." He was paroled at Hq 16 Army Corp, Montgomery, Al. The Board of Examiners found "that he is unfit for military duty in consequence of _____of skull with fracture of right parietal bone through both lobes producing permanent paralysis of left side fromt he effects of which he was suppered since May 27, 1864. We further declare our belief that he will not be fit for duty in a less period than never and in order to secure benefits which he cannot obtain in hospital in accordance with para 1, General Orders No. 69, A.&I.G. Office 1863, we do grant him a furlough for ninety days to go to Georginia, Butler Cty, AL, his place of residence, where, under General Orders No. 141, A&IG Office (last series) he will report to the nearest Enrolling Officer, and at the end of which he will rejoin his Company or be condiered a deserter." Hq 16, Army Corps, Office Provost Marshal, Montgomery, AL, May 31, 1865, "I, the undersigned, M.D. Wiggins, Private, 16 & 33 Al Inf, Do Solemly swear that I will not bear arms against the United States of America, or give any information, or do any military duty whatever, until regularly exchanged as a prisoner of war." S/M.B. Wiggins (his x) Height 5 feet, 10 inches, hair Dark. Eyes Green. Complexion Fair. "I certify that the above parole was given by me on the date above given and the above name private will not be disturbed by United States authorities so long as he observes the condition of his parole, and the laws and regulations in force where he resides.
