    Notes
    • From a letter by Loleitha Teysko written to Bill, Cindy, & Jonathan Teysko dated May 10, 1988:
"Grandpa Wiggins (James Madison Wiggins) died a few days before Christmas in 1934. He died of cancer of the ear which probably had spread before he died.I remember it very well. It was raining like crazy the day of the funeral December 24, 1934. At one time he owned all the land around our house, they say over 300 acres. Grandma Wiggins died earlier around 1927 I think.
Grandpa Wiggins was a good man--deacon of the church and when there was the depression he'd hitch up the wagon and come to see how we were doing. He was not a large man and had a moustache. The house had a hall and a porch along the front with a swing on it. On one side of the hall was a master bedroom with two 4-poster beds, & a fireplace. Then there was a small bedroom. pantry, and kitchen. On the other side of the hall was two bedrooms. It was burned pretty soon after he died and Aunt Nellie has a house in the same place. He had pear trees and other fruit trees and pecan trees which still bear nuts.
Grandpa Wiggins had two sisters that were old maids (Sarah Elizabeth and Mary Luemma Wiggins). I remember them liking flowers amd their spinning wheel. Uncle Willie (William J Wiggins) lived on the right side just before you got to Jamestown going home from our house. Uncle Green (Maston Green Wiggins) lived before you got to the highway. He was a funny man in the way he tried to preach. Uncle Lawrence (Samuel Lawrence Wiggins) lived on the right side of the road going toward Castor. He was a boozer the way I remember him. Can't remember any more.

      bSheriff Jimmie
      /b1910 , Arcadia, Louisiana
James Madison Wiggins served as deputy sheriff and constable under John Curry for twelve years. There was a log camp at Black Lake known as the Tullis Crossing. Mr. George Madden was Justice of the Peace. Many times each week, Mr. Madden called Jimmie to serve papers for distrurbing the peace, being drunk, and/or fighting.
One Christmas Eve one man knocked another in the head with a whip stock. Jimmie carried one to the doctor and one to jail. Jimmie's wife Tommie spent a very worried Christmas with four small children. Four days later, Mr. Madden held court. Jimmie carried his two clients and four witnesses to Madden's house. They were told to behave themselves, fined ten dollars each, and made to shake hands. They were both mule skinners hauling logs. Jimmie rode the old gray mare home and Tommie was relieved. She was glad when he gave this job up when his health went bad.
