Robert was killed on the river at Dixie Landing. It was getting night and the river had risen. He went to the bank in a small boat to tie up for the night. He threw (a) rope around a tree and missed catching it. The knot hit (him) in the head, knocking him in the river where he drowned. They carried his body home by oxen and wagon. He was buried in the Dumas Cemetery. A headstone was not found."
