- Surgeon, U.S. Army. Graduated with a medical degree from Yale in 1816. Spent much of his life at various military posts on the frontier, and served in the Black Hawk, Florida and Mexican Wars.
He died on active duty while serving as Medical Director for the forces under the command of General Wool during the Mexican War (recorded as "Present, Sick" in the Sep 1846 Post Report from San Antonio de Bexar, Texas in the list of General Staff officers headed by Colonel Sylvester Churchill, Inspector General).
