- Ellis Gibson Byers, 71, of 347 1/2 Bedford Street, died Thursday, May 29, at his residence. Born in Lonaconing March 2, 1915, he was the son of the late William and Margaret Byers. Mr. Byers was formerly employed by the City of Baltimore Department of Transit and Traffic, and by Memorial Hospital here. He was an Army veteran of World War II. Surviving are his widow, the former Margaret D. Fortney; one stepson, Raynor R. Ross, Severn, one stepdaughter, Mrs. Barbara E. Beaver, Ludlow, Ill.; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be conducted there Saturday at 1 p.m. by the Rev. Bill Hyde. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery, Lonaconing. Graveside military honors will be accorded by Victory Post 155, American Legion, Westernport. The Cumberland Evening Times, May 30, 1986
