- CRESAPTOWN — Ione Eloise Nicholas, 91, of, Cresaptown, passed away on Sunday, April 22, 2012, at the Frostburg Village Nursing Home. Born May 20, 1920, in Cresaptown, she was the daughter of the late Charles E. Stottlemeyer and Marion L. (McBee) Stottlemeyer. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Maurice W. Nicholas Sr.; one sister, Freda Ferguson, and one brother-in-law, Arthur Ferguson. Mrs. Nicholas was a homemaker. She attended Cresaptown High School. Ione was a member of the Cresaptown United Methodist Church for 75 years and was one of their eldest members. Ione dearly loved her kittens, Jetty, Razzie, Pippa, Dude, and Dandy. She was very fond of the staff and patients, and the patients’ family at the nursing home which she considered like family. Surviving are her daughter, Charlotte E. Nicholas and son, M. William Nicholas, both of Cresaptown. Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., Cresaptown, on Wednesday from noon to 1 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted in the funeral home on Wednesday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Hal Atkins and the Rev. Harold R. McClay Jr. officiating. Interment will be held in Hillcrest Memorial Park. The family would like to thank the Frostburg Village Nursing Home staff for their kind care given to Ione. Cumberland Times-News, April 23, 2012.
