- FROSTBURG — George William Walker, 86, of Long Stretch, Frostburg, died Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2002, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland. Born Jan. 4, 1916, in Midlothian, he was the son of the late George Speir and Stella (Winters) Walker. He was preceded in death by his first wife of 53 years, Brophine (Wilt) Walker; a son, Richard W. Walker; grandson, Richard K. Walker; and a sister, Marie Rowe. Surviving are his wife, Vivian Kamauf Walker; one son, George S. Walker II and wife Linda; three grandsons, George S. Walker III and wife Jill, Glenn W. Walker and fiancee Renee, and Nathan Walker and wife Laurie; one granddaughter, Erin Walker; two great-grandsons, Richard Henry and Glenn W. Walker II, and two great-granddaughters, Elizabeth Walker and Kaitlyn Walker, all of Frostburg; three stepsons, Gary Kamauf, Hyndman, Pa., David Kamauf and Kevin Kamauf, and one stepdaughter, Mary White, all of Cresaptown; 15 step-grandchildren; 26 step-great-grandchildren; one brother, Dan Walker and wife Wilda; two sisters, Margaret Phillips and husband Meril, and Betty Drummond and husband John, all of Frostburg; and many nieces and nephews. George and “Bro” built and operated Sky View Inn and Motel for many years on Long Stretch. He retired as a supervisor at PPG Works 7. A veteran of World War II, he served in occupied Japan. He was a member of Frostburg United Methodist Church, Mountain Lodge 99 AF & AM and the Ali Ghan Shrine Club. He had a lifelong interest in music, learning several instruments. Besides being a member of a dance band, The Blue Notes, for more than 40 years, he was also a past member of the Arion Band, Shrine Band and Army Band. After retirement he continued his hobby of restoring antique cars and discovered new talents for stained glass, painting and clockmaking. Friends will be received at the Sowers Funeral Home, P.A., 60 W. Main St., Frostburg, on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Thursday at 2 p.m. with Pastor Don Matthews officiating. Interment will be in Frostburg Memorial Park. Graveside military rites will be accorded by American Legion Farrady Post 24.
