- Westernport Soldier Taken Ill in France – Taken ill while on duty in France, Pfc. Daryl V. McKenzie, son of John B. McKenzie, 289 Main Street, Westernport, has returned to the United States and is a patient at Woodrow Wilson General Hospital, Staunton, Va. Upon arriving in this country he was hospitalized for a time at Halloran General Hospital, Staten Island, N.Y. Pfc. McKenzie, who entered the service July 11, 1942 participated in the invasions of Normandy and Southern France and in the battle of Metz, France. WESTERNPORT — Daryl (Darby) McKenzie, 58, of 214 Main Street, died yesterday at Baker VA Center, Martinsburg, W. Va. Born at Barnum, W. Va., he was a son of the late John and Lua (Hite) McKenzie. A veteran of World War II, he was a retired city employe and was a member of Victory Post 155, American Legion. Surviving are his stepmother, Mrs. Eva (Tanner) McKenzie; three half brothers, Clifton, Elton and Wayne McKenzie, all of Westernport, and four half sisters, Mrs. Bernice Dent, Charlestown, W. Va., Mrs. Hilda Friend and Mrs. Joyce Jones, both of Westernport, and Mrs. Marguerite Footen, McCoole. The body is at the Boal Funeral Home where friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be conducted there Saturday at 1 p.m. and burial will be in Philos Cemetery.
