- THURMONT — Robert Charles Dishong, 87, of Thurmont, formerly of Cumberland, died Monday, Jan. 9, 2012 at the Northhampton Manor Nursing Center. He was the husband of Mathilda Fern Kent Dishong, his wife of 52 years, whom he married on Nov. 8, 1958. Born April 3, 1924 in Boynton, Pa., he was a son of the late Herman and Laura Walker Dishong. Robert served during World War II and worked at the Celanese Company, before joining the Maryland State Police in Cumberland. He was a member of many clubs and was a life member of the Frederick Elks. Surviving besides his wife at home, is a sister, Shirley Gracie of Frostburg, a brother-in-law, Allen Hanson of West Virginia; two nephews, Burgess Hanson of Florida and Kevin Hanson of West Virginia; a niece, Cheryl Engles of Delaware. He was preceded in death by a sister Joanne Hanson. Mr. Dishong is at the Robert E. Dailey & Son Funeral Homes, P.A., 615 East Main Street, Thurmont. There will be no visiting or calling at the funeral home. A memorial service will be held 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 13, 2012 at the Harriet Chapel, 12625 Catoctin Furnace Road, Thurmont, with the Rev. Sally Joyner-Giffin officiating. Inurnment will be private and at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in Mr. Dishong's name to the Harriet Chapel, 12625 Catoctin Furnace Road, Thurmont, MD 21788. Cumberland Times-News, January 12, 2012.
