Born Sept. 11, 1948, in Frostburg, he was the son of the late Patrick W. Purbaugh Sr. and Catherine (Welsh) Purbaugh. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Beverly (McKenzie) Purbaugh; and his brother, Patrick Purbaugh Jr. Mr. Purbaugh was retired from the Cumberland Teamsters Union Local 453. Jim was Catholic by faith and was a member of the Savage Mountain Sportsman and the Haystack Sportsman Club. Surviving are two sons, Jimmy Purbaugh and wife Lavada, of Lonaconing, and Jeff Purbaugh and wife Samantha, of LaVale, and one daughter, Julia Guest and husband Michael, of Midland; eleven grandchildren, Chey-enne, Stephanie, Melina, Zachary, Mikey, Dustin, Davison, Raven, Tony, Harley B. and Harley K.; one sister, Kay Gaynor, her sons, Dean and Darin Gaynor; his lifelong friend, Jim Martirano and numerous brothers; sisters-in-law; nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the Durst Funeral Home P.A., 57 Frost Ave., Frostburg, on Tuesday, March 8, 2011, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted in the funeral home on Wednesday, March 9, 2011, at 11 a.m. Following the services, his body will be cremated in accordance with his wishes.
