- Emma Lou Diamond, 85, of Columbia, formerly of Barton, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 30, 2016, at Howard County Hospital, Columbia. Born Nov. 16, 1930, in Barton, she was the daughter of the Joseph Cooper McCormick and Pansy (Finzel) McCormick Hopkins. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Robert Burl Diamond, on July 3, 1990. Emma was a 1948 graduate of Barton High School. In 1949 after graduation, Emma moved to Washington D.C. where she joined C&P Telephone Company having retired in 1985 as a cost analyst. She spent her retirement years volunteering helping senior citizens with their medical bills. Emma is survived by her cousins, Mike McCormick, Patty Haines, Alice Neff and Barbara Moses. Emma was also blessed to have so many friends and neighbors especially Ellen White. At Emma's request, she was cremated. A memorial service will be conducted at the Boal Memorial Chapel, Barton, on Saturday, Sept. 10, 2016, at 12:30 p.m. with Pastor Sandy Cowan officiating. Friends and family will be received one hour prior to service from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Alzheimers Association.
