GRANTSVILLE - Vera Ellen Merrill, 93, formerly of Grantsville, died Sunday, Oct. 15, 2006, at Manor Care, Barberton, Ohio. Born Aug. 22, 1913, in New Germany, she was the daughter of the late Lawrence Delbert and Manie Elizabeth (Broadwater) Durst. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard M. Merrill, Dec. 17, 1972; one daughter, Jacqueline L. Wilt; three granddaughters, Dana Simmons, Janet Hall and Vivian Hetrick; four brothers, Blaine, Gideon, Glenn and Paul Durst and three sisters, Gladys Durst, Dailey Rice and Ruby Jenkins. Mrs. Merrill was a member of God's Ark of Safety, Frostburg. She was also a member of the Grantsville Firemen's Auxiliary; member of the Concerned Women of America and a former member of New Germany Homemaker's Club. Surviving are two daughters, Cleo E. Hetrick, Barberton, and Dailey C. Kaeser, Tullahoma, Tenn.; nine grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, eight great-great-grandchildren and two great-great-great-grandchildren. Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., 179 Miller St., Grantsville, on Wednesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Thursday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Everett Spence officiating. Interment will be in Grantsville Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may be directed to God's Ark of Safety or the charity of the donor's choice.
