GLADYS L DURST GRANTSVILLE - Gladys Leona Durst, 87, of Frostburg Village and formerly of Grantsville, died Thursday, Sept. 17, 1998, at Frostburg Village. Born Oct. 21, 1910, in New Germany, she was a daughter of the late Lawrence Delbert Durst and Manie Elizabeth (Broadwater) Durst. On April 28, 1992, she was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer Clark Durst, whom she married on Nov. 18, 1933. Also preceding her in death were her son Thomas Dale Durst; two grandsons, Timothy Dean Durst and Timothy Clark Durst; two granddaughters, Anya Craig and Sharon Jean Durst; and two brothers, Blaine and Gideon Durst. Mrs. Durst graduated from Grantsville High School in 1929 and the University of Maryland School of Nursing in 1932. She did private duty nursing for many years. She also attended Dr. N.R. Davis on obstetric calls and was the office nurse for Dr. P. Strong in his Grantsville and Salisbury, Pa., offices. Mrs. Durst was an active member in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints until her illness. She and her husband served several missions in the Washington, D.C., temple of the Church of Jesus Christ in Kensington. She was active throughout her life serving to the needs and well being of others, especially the love and care of her family. She is survived by two sons, Dean Durst and wife, Joanne, Westminster, Joseph Durst, Grantsville; two daughters, Mildred "Patsy" Pope and husband, Harry, Springs, Pa., Nancy Craig, Lynchburg, Va.; a daughter-in-law, Sandra Yoder, Grantsville; two brothers, Glenn Durst and wife, Mary, Frostburg, Paul Durst and wife, Lois, Grantsville; three sisters, Vera Merrill, New Germany, Dailey Rice, Meyersdale, Pa., Ruby Jenkins and husband, Donald, Randallstown; a sister-in-law, Esther Durst, Grantsville; 15 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., Grantsville, on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be conducted on Monday at 1 p.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, LaVale, with Bishop Steven Grow officiating. Interment will be in the Grantsville Cemetery. Friends may call at the church one hour prior to the services. Pallbearers will be David Durst, Thomas Durst, Matthew Pope, Steven Brode, John Gundaker, Joseph Durst, Jorge Caceras and Wayne Brode. Expressions of sympathy may be directed to the Missionary Fund of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
