- Laytonsville – Kathleen V. (McKenzie) Jones, 93, of Laytonsville, formerly of Mount Savage, passed away Monday, January 23, 2012 at her residence. Born July 3, 1918 in Mount Savage to the late Elmer and Nellie McKenzie; she is preceded in death by her parents; husbands Robert Naehr and Harold Jones; brothers Anthony (Dub), Reford (Ref), Arthur (Artie), and Melvin (Red) McKenzie and sister, Leona (Nonie) Maley/ Kathleen loved the Big Bands and was a great dancer. She lived in Mount Savage until she left for the service where she served in the WAC’s during WW II. She worked at the Celanese Factory as a hair dresser and much later as a cafeteria worker at Northwood High School. Kay had a knack for sewing, creating stained glass pieces, gardening and canning, and was a hooker of rugs. She was always involved with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a strong woman raising three children pretty much on her own and caring for two husbands in bad health; always taking care of other people. She received and gave love to all of her nieces and nephews as well as friends. It’s hard to forget Kay’s kind gentle heart and her beautiful smile; you were loved very much. Surviving are her children, Carol Murdock and husband, Rick, Laytonsville, Peggy Himes and husband, Dave, Laytonsville, and Richard Naehr, Virginia; grandchildren, Kelly Himes, Kate Ellison, and Kristi Naehr; great-grandchildren, Chase, Hailey and Jessica Ellison. Also surviving are one brother, Theodore (Ted) McKenzie; and many nieces and nephews. Family and friends will be received at the Durst Funeral Home P.A., 57 Frost Ave., Frostburg on Thursday, Jan. 26, 2012 from 2 to 5 p.m. Funeral Services will be held at the funeral home on Friday, Jan. 27, 2012 at 1 p.m. with the Pastor Amy Paul. Interment will be in the Maryland State Veterans Cemetery at Rocky Gap. Military honors will be accorded by Farrady Post 24 American Legion Honor Guard and Post 6025 VFW Mount Savage.
