| Gravestones of David MacKenzie (b. 1798), Sarah Jones MacKenzie (b. 1811) and daughter, Ruth Contributed by Richard Lee (Dick) Mackenzie, January, 2011. Located at McKenzie Road and Hannon Court, Ellicott City, Maryland. Per Dick MacKenzie, graves were moved to this location diagonally across from Hannon residence from the family cemetery somewhere on the original property.
Also, per Ann Stansbarger comes the following: "This is a beautiful picture. Thanks for copying me. When I visited the Hannon’s they walked me across the street from their house to this place. They said they had moved the 3 headstones to this place when they graded the property for their son/daughter’s house (I can’t remember which). They pointed toward that property. I could see where the house was from where I was standing. It was just down the road a bit, toward the river on a little hill.
You can see it on Google maps. It is a very large round-shaped property on the same side of McKenzie road as the Hannon’s house (that is, the west side), ringed by McKenzie Rd, Old Maple Ct and Ridge Tree Ct. Because it is high ground I think it must have been the original family cemetery. The other grave markers have never been found. I suspect they were knocked over and covered by dirt during a flood. According to the Hannons there was a particularly destructive flood in 1868. Or maybe they were used by subsequent landowners for building materials. I hope not. That would be sad." January, 2011. |
