- Corriganville, MD - James Augustus McKenzie, 94, of Corriganville, MD, peacefully passed away Saturday, March 29, 2014, at his home. Born in Mount Savage, MD, Mr. McKenzie was the third son of eleven children to the late Augustus McKenzie and Gladys (Chisholm) McKenzie. He was also preceded in death by his sisters: Sue Habersack, Faith Kennell, Shirley "Babe" Diehl; and his brothers: Mason "Nook," Paul "Butch," John "Dood," Harry "Corky," and Augustus Jr., "Fatty." Jim was a World War II Veteran who served in the United States Army in the South Pacific. He worked at the Celanese Fibers Corporation of America, Caterpillar, and retired from Pittsburgh Plate Glass Industries. Jim was an avid fisherman, hunter, ginseng gatherer, and gardener. He was an active member of Redeemer's United Church of Christ, Ellerslie, MD. Jim is survived by: his loving wife of 68 years, Bessie Marie (Fresh) McKenzie; his sister, Joan Haines; and his brother, Frederick. He also leaves behind his children: Carol Greer (Curt), Linda O'Brien (Ed, deceased), James E. McKenzie (Laura), Janet Boyd (Larry), Gary McKenzie (Zina); eleven grandchildren: Brian and Bradley Greer; Michael, Karie, Benjamin and Kayla McKenzie; Mitchell and Kyler Boyd; Luke, Nikki, and Kim Gray; three great-grandchildren: Anderson, Ethan, and Merrik Greer; as well as many cherished nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the Adams Family Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur Street, Cumberland, MD, on Tuesday, April 1, 2014 from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home on Wednesday, April 2, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. with Reverend Tomislav Dosch officiating. The family will also receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Restlawn Memorial Gardens. Military honors will be accorded at the cemetery by the Post #13 Veterans Honor Guard. The family would like to extend its heartfelt appreciation and gratitude to the hospice staff.
