- AVILTON ~ Harry William Garlitz, 85, of 6918 Avilton-Lonaconing Road, Lonaconing (Avilton), died Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2000, at the Cuppett-Weeks Nursing Home, Oakland. Born April 8, 1915, in Avilton, he was a son of the late William B. and Mary (McKenzie) Garlitz. Mr. Garlitz was of the Catholic faith and was a retired heavy equipment mechanic and welder for Buffalo Coal Company. He was a member of the Cumberland Eagles, Aerie #245. He is survived by his wife, Judith Anne (Jewell) Garlitz; one brother, Albert Garlitz, Avilton; two sisters, Beulah Hetz, Avilton, and Freda Minick, Barton; and a number of nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., Grantsville, on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Catholic prayer service will be conducted in the funeral home on Friday at 2 p.m. with the Rev.
