      Samuel S. McKenzie, 84, Civil War veteran and farmer near Cresaptown died at three o'clock this morning at his home. Mr. McKenzie is survived by his wife, Alice, and by three sons, Lewis, Walter and Gallitzin McKenzie. He is also survived by three daughters. Mrs. Elizabeth Hershberger, Mrs. Ira McKenzie, Mrs. Berta Welch and Mrs. Nellie McKenzie. One brother Enoch McKenzie, and one sister, Sarah, also survive.

      Mr. McKenzie was a member of St. Ambrose's Catholic Church of Cresaptown. He will be buried in the church cemetery.

      In 1863, Samuel enlisted as a Pvt. in Co.E, 2nd Regiment, Md. Army of the Union.
      He wore a large white beard and was known as "Uncle Sam."

      He died on 2 Aug 1927 in Cresaptown, Allegany Co., Maryland. Samuel S. McKenzie, 84, Civil War veteran and farmer, of near Cresaptown, died at three o'clock this morning at his home. Mr. McKenzie is survived by his wife, Alice, and by three sons, Lewis, Walter, and Gallitzin McKenzie. He is also survived by four daughters, Mrs. Elizabeth Hershberger, Mrs. Ira McKenzie, Mrs. Bertha Welch, and Mrs. Nellie McKenzie. One brother, Enoch McKenzie and one sister, Sarah, also survive. Mr. McKenzie was a member of St. Ambrose's Catholic Church of Cresaptown. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The Cumberland Evening Times, August 2, 1927.
