Services were held Wednesday afternoon at the Gresser Funeral Home for H. H. (Henry Howard) Wade, who died Monday at the age of 81 at Shady Lawn Rest Home near Dalton, with Rev. W. Franklin Lahr officiating. Burial was made in the family plot at Crown Hill Cemetery. Mr. Wade had been in failing health for several years and had been a resident at Shady Lawn about a year. Born January 12, 1886, at Frostburg, Md., a son of Enoch and Mary Weinold Wade, Mr. Wade had been a resident of this city since 1912, the family home being at 233 Westwood Ave. He retired as an engineer for the Pennsylvania Railroad in 1957 after 43 years of service. He was a member of Christ United Church. His wife, Anna Wagner Wade, preceded him in death in 1965 and a son, Roy, died in 1960. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Arlie (Nora) Duerr of Liverpool, N. Y.; two sons, Franklin (Speck) and Earl (Butch), both of this city: two brothers, Charles of Frostburg, Md., and Robert of New Castle, Pa.; four sisters, Mrs. Charles Plummer of Cumberland, Md., and Mrs. Harry Wear, Mrs. Lee McKinley and Mrs. H. Pastor Dean Porter of the Guthrie Center Open Bible Church officiated, Ann Adams was soloist, with Lori Anderson as organist. Honorary casket bearers were Steve Jacob, Richard Stofer, Dan Brubaker, Kenneth Buttler, Jr., and Tim Chapman. Rita Virginia Stofer, daughter of Joseph Gibbons and Margaret Hoenecker (sic) Gibbons, was born Dec. 22, 1929, in Cumberland, MD. She died July 7, 2002, at her home near Yale. Rita attended school in Cumberland. She was united in marriage with Kenneth Dean "Mike" Stofer on July 10, 1948, at Columbus, GA. They were parents of four children: Kenneth Dean Jr., Claudia Rae, Cynthia Ann, and Dennis Michael. During Mike's 20 years in the Army, the family experienced living in many different cities, including Columbus, GA, Fort Stewart, GA, Fort Knox, KY, Fort Campbell, KY, and Germany. Rita lived in Maryland while Mike served in the Korean War. After Mike's retirement in 1964, the family moved to Iowa and lived in the Bagley area. Rita had worked for nine years at Franklin Manufacturing in Jefferson. She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant brother, Joseph Paul; an infant sister, Amy Renee; her husband Kenneth Dean in December 1994; and her eight-month-old granddaughter Jennifer Lynn Stofer in April 1976. Survivors include two sons, Kenneth and his wife Jean of Panora, and Dennis and his wife Rita of West Des Moines; her two daughters, Claudia Brubaker and her husband Dan of Rippey and Cynthia Jacob and her husband Steve of Sumner; six grandchildren, Adam and Jill Brubaker, Mindy Bear and her husband Kirk, Ashley Jones, and Jason and Michael Stofer; two great-grandchildren, Mariah and Madison Bear; three aunts, her sisters-in-law, Dorothy Stofer and Joan Stofer, both of Jefferson, Pat Dowd of Harvard, NE, Thelma Guess of Des Moines, Mary Louise Springer of Bayard, and Arliss Buttler and husband Kenny of Guthrie Center; brother-in-law Richard "Dutch" Stofer and his wife Mary Esther of Oelwein; and nieces and nephews. Md., a former Cumberland resident, who died Friday night in Suburban Hospital, Washington, of head injuries he received when a tire he was repairing exploded and struck him in the face. The victim was an employe of a Silver Spring service station where the accident occurred. While in Cumberland he had been an employe of the Kelly-Springfield Tire Company and the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad Company. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Ellen M. He was fatally injured Wednesday afternoon when the pulpwood truck he was driving overturned on State Route 36 near Moscow. The Rev. Joseph Upole will officiate at the services. Born Feb. 20, 1929, in Lonaconing, he was the son of the late James and Florence (Kiddy) Brown. He also was preceded in death by two sisters, Ruth Brown and Gladys Brown. Besides her parents, she is preceded in death by a brother, Eddie Joe House, and a sister, Janie Meanyhan. Sharon was a retired school bus driver for the city of Manassas, Va. She was a member of the Piney Plains Methodist Church in Little Orleans where she attended regularly. Her faith and her family was very important to Sharon. There were no strangers at her house. Sharon's joys in life was spending time with children and grandchildren. She is survived by her husband, Edward P. Smith. Colleen is survived by two sons, Robert Barnard Harden, William James Harden and wife, Leslie; and three grandsons, George Barton and wife, Megan, Patrick Barton and wife, Kelly, and their two daughters, Lyla Rae and Waverly Rose, and Jeffrey Harden and fiancé, Rachel; her dedicated sister, Shirley Blamer; three sisters-in-law, Betty J. Surviving are four children, Mrs. Myrtle Wertz, LaVale, to whose home the body will be taken; Lester McKenzie, RD 5, city; Mrs. Ethel Blauch, RD 2, Keyser, W. Va.; and Mrs. Alice Blauch, RD 5, Cumberland; two sisters, Mrs. Cora Martin, Weston, W. Va.; and Mrs. Margaret Dudley, city; 17 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Services will be conducted tomorrow at 2 p. m. in Pinto Mennonite Church by Bishop Ray Otto, pastor of Springs, Pa., Mennonite Church, and Rev. Chester Helmick, pastor. Mrs. Helen Hacker Popalo, 26, wife of Joseph Popalo, Charlestown street, died Friday morning. She was a daughter of Drucilla Hacker and the late Henry Hacker. Her father died fourteen years ago. Mrs. Popalo is survived by her mother, her husband, one daughter, Mary Popalo, aged five years, and two sisters, Mrs. Thomas Clark and Mrs. John Bradburn of Lonaconing.
